Rick Holtzman

is the "Head Coach Emeritus" of the Raptors and is also the former (six years)Track and Cross Country coach at Martin Luther King Middle School in Berkeley and before that coached for five years at Albany Middle School and High School. With over a decade of youth track and field coaching experience, his passion for the sport is contagious.  Coach Rick's son was a star runner for Albany HS and later was a coach at MLK and Longfellow Middle School.

Joel Ager

Is the "on the ground" Raptors head coach. Joel handles (brilliantly) all the Raptors Sunday workouts except when his job takes him out of town at which point Rick grudgingly emarges from semi-retirement and takes over!He is a lifelong endurance athlete and enjoys teaching sprint technique, taking the group on road runs, and teaching cycling technique in preparation for triathlons. He has completed the USATF Level 1 coaches certification course. Joel's daughter Johanna runs for Berkeley High School.

Fernando Arias

Originally from Chile, Fernando was a well-loved coach for the Raptors until his untimely death in 2015. He held Level 1 and Level 2 USATF Coach Certification. His Level 2 Certification was in Jumps. A former member of the DSE Running Club of San Francisco, he graduated to become a marathoner for many years. Arias also became a Coach in the East Bay for schools and private individuals including young athletes training for the Junior Olympics. We miss him!

Justin Lee

Was a high school and college runner and began coaching with Rick at MLK in 2012. He is a Level 1 USATF coach and a master at coming up with fun workouts that the kids love. The "Donut run", the "Coffee Run" and the "Watermelon Mile" were some of Justin's inventions at MLK. Justin is is also responsible  for improving the form of many, many King runners and Raptors, making them seriously faster in the process. His daughter Marnie runs for Berkeley High School.
